Alice Springs Show Weekend
6th July 2018
Alice Springs is a feature stop in Australia’s red centre and the Alice Springs Show in July is one of the biggest social and agricultural highlights of the Northern Territory’s year.
The show runs on the first Friday and Saturday of each July, and Friday is always a regional public holiday. The show is held at the Blatherskite Park grounds to the south of town.
The Centralian Beef Breeders Association holds three separate events over the weekend that include the Commercial Cattle Classes of unled cattle, Led Classes and the Grand Parade, and the Bull Sale and annual dinner. This group has a long history with the Alice Springs Show with the aim of improving the industry including beef cattle quality. Meat vendors sell samples of the high-end beef during the show.
Children are not left out and there are displays of their work, a special animal zone for handling and learning, and fun craft activities. And everyone can enjoy the dog show and trials, horse competitions, photography competition, showgirl competition, art, cooking, craft and the fireworks.
The Grand Parade is usually scheduled for Friday afternoon with everything from utes attending the Ute Muster, to champion bulls and show jumpers. People sit back in the grandstand or other vantage points around the ground and enjoy the performances.
